Google is expanding Google’s AI capabilities inside Google Chrome with a new feature called Skills, designed to help users save and reuse their favorite AI prompts across different web pages. Built on top of Chrome’s existing Gemini integration, the feature allows commonly repeated workflows (like recipe modifications, shopping comparisons, or document summaries) to be triggered again with a single click instead of rewriting the same prompt each time.
The move strengthens Chrome’s AI-first browser strategy as competition grows from rivals like OpenAI’s Atlas, Perplexity AI’s Comet, and The Browser Company’s Dia.
“Google is adding more AI capabilities to its Chrome web browser.”
“Skills will take it a step further by allowing users to create AI prompts that can be accessed time and again with just a click.”
“The Skill will then run on the web page that’s being viewed, along with any additional tabs that have been selected.”
“Like other Gemini actions in Chrome, Skills will ask the user for confirmation before taking certain actions.”
This update signals Google’s push to make browser-based AI feel more like a persistent personal workflow assistant instead of a one-off chatbot. By turning repeated prompts into reusable actions, Chrome is reducing friction for common tasks and nudging users toward deeper daily reliance on Gemini.
The inclusion of a prebuilt Skills library also lowers the barrier for mainstream adoption, making advanced AI workflows accessible even to users who may not know how to write effective prompts from scratch. In competitive terms, it also positions Chrome more aggressively against the new generation of AI-native browsers now entering the market.
